Una vez ya reunidas las preguntas sobre la residencia New Yorker (aquí), en este post os traigo las de la escuela, traslado desde el aeropuerto y excursiones de fin de semana desde Nueva York.

Este post que fue de los primeros que escribí cuando empecé la andadura con mi blog ha resultado ser el más comentado de todos. Por ello, he decidido hacer otros dos contestando y haciendo un resumen de lo que me habéis estado preguntado estos años. Estoy hablando de "Mi curso de inglés en Nueva York".

Hace ya un año que pasé y disfruté el día de San Patricio en Nueva York. Aquel despliegue de personas y música que recorría las calles del Midtown, el color verde por todos los lados: en las ropas, complementos, pancartas, bares,...; los jóvenes, la mayoría universitarios, bebiendo desde por la mañana en la zona de la biblioteca ("similar" a las fiestas universitarias de España, me recordó sobre todo a mi tierra, Valladolid), familias con sus niños a ver el desfile,... Por lo que si se encuentran en un lugar donde se celebre sólo me queda decirles: vistanse de verde, beban cerveza verde y, ¡a divertirse!.

A year ago I went and enjoyed the St. Patrick's Day in New York. That deployment of people and music that walked the streets of Midtown, the color green everywhere: on clothes, accessories, banners, bars, etc; young people, mostly university students, "drinking" from the morning in the library ("similar" to the university parties in Spain, reminded me especially my land, Valladolid); families with children to watch the parade ... So if you are in a place where celebrated it, i can only say: dress with green, drink green beer and have fun!.

El puente de Brooklyn, Nueva York // Brooklyn Bridge, New York

Es junto al puente Golden Gate de San Francisco, uno de los puentes más fotografiados del mundo, por no decir el que más. Se ha convertido en un icono de la ciudad y es una de las paradas obligatorias si visitan la ciudad para conseguir su foto del skyline de Nueva York. Cruza el East River uniendo la isla de Manhattan con Brooklyn, con el continente.

It´s along the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, one of the most photographed bridges in the world, if not the most. It has become an icon of the city and is one of the stops on whether visiting the city to get their picture of the skyline of New York. Cross the East River connecting Manhattan Island with Brooklyn, with the continent.

Virginia, U.S.

Virginia, <<Madre de los Estados>> o <<Madre de Presidentes>>, es una ciudad de la costa este de los Estados Unidos. Recibe dicho nombre debido a Isabel I de Inglaterra, quien al no haber contraído matrimonio, era conocida como la <<reina virgen>>. 

Virginia, <<Mother of the States>> or <<Mother of Presidents>>, is a city of the east coast of the United States. It receives the above mentioned name due to Isabel I of England, who on not getting married, was known like  <<virgin queen>>.

Hace unos días publiqué este video recopilando fotos y grabaciones que hice durante mi escapada a Washington D.C., algunas de las cuales ya habreís visto en otros post. Este es el primer video que edito (sé que me queda mucho por mejorar, pero mientras tanto...).

La High Line, Nueva York // The High line, New York

El parque "High Line" se ha convertido, en tan sólo 2 años, en uno de los favoritos para los turistas y para sus ciudadanos. Paseando por él te puedes encontrar a grupos de personas corriendo o dando clases de pilates, yoga, etc a 9 metros por encima de la calle. Unas vistas al río Hudson maravillosas, instalaciones de arte público, tumbonas para tomar el sol  y zonas verdes de paisajismo serán algunas de las mejoras que tiene la antigua vía de tren de los años setenta.

The High Line has became, in only 2 years, in one of the favorites for everyone. Walking along the park, you can find people running or doing pilates, yoga, etc. With a wonderfoul view of the Hudson river, public art facilities, sun loungers and green spaces  will be some of the improvements that  the former route of train of the seventies will get.

En Time Square, Nueva York // In Time Square, New York

¿Quién no ha oído hablar de Time Square? No necesita muchas presentaciones. En medio del Midtown newyorquino, muy cerca de la quinta avenida y de la biblioteca pública de Nueva York, es muy fácil llegar a ella. Se acerca la nochevieja, por lo que si estan pensando en un lugar donde celebrarla a lo grande con una gran multitud de gente, este es su lugar. 

Who hasn´t heard speaking of Time Square? It doesn´t need many presentations. In the middle of the Midtown, closely together of the fifth avenue and of the Public Library of New York, it is very easy to come to it. The New Year's Eve approaches, if something are thinking about a place where to celebrate it to the big thing with a great multitude of people, this one is you place.

Monumento en honor a la Marina de los EEUU // U.S. Marine Corps Memorial

Millones de personas visitan esta estatua de bronce cada año en Arlington, Virginia. Sí, es la misma ciudad que la del cementerio nacional, de hecho, está cruzando la carretera que los divide. Pero, ¿qué tiene de especial esta estatua?, ¿qué valor tiene para los estadounidenses?.

Million persons visit this statue of bronze every year in Arlington, Virginia. Yes, it is the same city that that of the national cemetery, in fact, is crossing the road that divides them. But, what has of special this statue?, what value has it for the Americans?.

Wigwan Motel

Buscando información sobre la Ruta 66, encontré este tipo de moteles tan originales. El primero que encontré está en Arizona, en plena ruta. Se dormía en el suelo al más puro estilo tradicional en las típicas tiendas indias, las "wigwam". En la actualidad, están equipadas como cualquier otro motel con su televisión por cable, su ducha, luz, etc. ¿Quiéren saber su historia?.

Looking up information about the Route 66, I found this type of so original motels. The first one that I found is in Arizona, in full route. He was falling asleep in the soil to the purest traditional style in the typical Indian shops, the "wigwam". la fuga de Alcatraz, nació la leyenda // escape from Alcatraz, the legend sprang up

Como ya he contando en el anterior post, Alcatraz era la prisión de mayor seguridad de los Estados Unidos. Por lo que cada intento de fuga era muy sonado. Hubo hasta 14 intentos de fuga, de los cuales, dicen,  sólo en el decimotercero se consiguió. Aunque las fuentes oficiales cuentan que murieron en las aguas frías (la temperatura del agua es de 12 grados), nunca se encontraron los cuerpos, sólo sus ropas se hallaron al otro lado de la bahía.

Since already i told you in the previous post, Gannet was the prison of major safety of the United States. For what every attempt of escape was very famous. It had up to 14 attempts of escape, of which, they say, only in the thirteenth one it was obtained. Though the official sources tell that they never died in the cold waters (the temperature of the water it is 12 degrees), they found the bodies, only his clothes were situated to another side of the bay.

La historia del la prisión de Alcatraz // The history of Alcatraz

La Roca (the Rock) o la isla de Alcatraz se encuentra en la bahía de San Francisco, California. De la prisión,  han salido grandes mitos o leyendas sobre posibles fugas debido a que se decía que era un lugar inquebrantable del que nadie se podía fugar. Y a partir de estas leyendas o historias, se han escrito muchos libros y se han rodado algunas pelis, la más conocida es "La fuga de Alcatraz" ("Escape from Alcatraz") de Clint Eastwood de 1979. Por dicha cárcel han pasado los delincuentes y mafiosos más peligrosos del siglo XX como Al Capone.

The Rock (the Rock) or the island of Alcatraz is in the bay of San Francisco, California. Of the prison, big myths or legends have gone out on possible escapes due to the fact that it was said that it was an unbreakable place from which nobody could abscond. And from these legends or histories, they have written to themselves many books and some pelis have been rolled, most known it is  " Escape from Alcatraz " of Clint Eastwood of 1979. For the above mentioned jail there have happened the delinquents and the most dangerous mafiosoes of the 20th century as Al Capone.

El metro de Washington D.C. // Washington D.C.´s metro

El metro de esta ciudad es el que más me ha impresionado hasta el momento. La primera vez que lo utilicé, recuerdo que pregunté dónde estaba la entrada más cercana y me señalaron hacia un muro grande circular que no se parecía a cualquier otra boca de metro que hubiera visto. En cuanto me asomé me entró vértigo (y eso que no tengo). 

The metro of this city is the one that more has impressed me up to the moment. The first time that I used it, I remember that I asked where the most nearby entry was and they indicated to me towards a big circular wall that it was not looking like any other tube station entrance that it had seen. In all that I appeared i had dizziness (and it that I do not have).

Dupont Circle, Washington D.C.

Es un barrio adinerado muy peculiar del distrito de Columbia, en el que se mezcla la comunidad gay y el ambiente diplomático. Por lo que está siempre muy animado. Aunque, aparentemente en las guías encontremos que tenga un ambiente gay cuando nosotros fuimos (por recomendación de una pareja española afincada allí), nos encontramos bares y discotecas llenas de universitarios y de gente con ganas de pasárselo bien debido a que se encuentra al lado de la universidad Georgetown.

It is a wealthy very peculiar neighborhood of Columbia's district, in which there is mixed the gay community and the diplomatic environment. For what is always very animated. Though, seemingly in the guides we find that it has a gay environment when we were (for recommendation of a Spanish pair bought property there), we meet bars and discotheques full of university students and of people desire of spending it to him well due to the fact that one finds next to the Georgetown university.

Adiós a los taxis amarillos de Nueva York // Bye bye New York yellow cabs

Como motivo de la festividad del 1 de noviembre, día de los difuntos, quiero dar mi particular despedida a los taxis amarillos de Nueva York. A pesar de que son uno de los iconos de la mítica ciudad, no los quieren mantener. Los motivos, como siempre, económicos.

La Estatua de la Libertad, Nueva York // The State of Liberty, New York

Ahora que está más en boca de todos porque la van a clausurar durante un año, a partir del 29 de octubre, para reformar su interior (diseñado por Eiffel, el mismo que la torre de París) me animo a escribir sobre ella. Pero, ¡ qué no cunda el pánico!, que los que vayan de visita este año podrán seguir visitando su isla y tener sus fotos de la famosa estatua.

La ciudad con más murales de Estados Unidos, Philadelphia // The city with the most murals in the USA, Philadelphia

Ya os conté en el anterior post que Philadelphia es la ciudad con más murales o graffitis de todo Estados Unidos. Según se va paseando por esta pequeña ciudad nos fuimos encontrando muchas murales en las paredes laterales de los edificios con diferentes intenciones: políticas, decorativas, exaltaciones a personajes importantes, etc. Además, estos graffitis están promovidos, y lo más importante, permitidos por su ayuntamiento.

Already I told you in the previous post that Philadelphia is the city with more murals or graffitis of any United States. As one is walking along this small city we were meeting many wall in the lateral walls of the buildings different intentions: political, decorative, exaltations to important prominent figures, etc. In addition, these graffitis are promoted, and the most important thing, allowed by his town hall.

Una ciudad con mucha historia, Filadelfia

A sólo 150 km de Nueva York encontramos Filadelfia, la ciudad más grande del estado de Pennsylvania, al noroeste de los Estados Unidos. Pasear por el centro de esta ciudad significa adentrarse en los orígenes de esta nación. Muy cerca tenemos a Pittsburgh; ambas son grandes ciudades universitarias, perfectas para visitarlas 2 o 3 días, que cuentan con un famoso territorio amish.

Qué ver en Central Park, Nueva York // What to see in Central Park, New York

¿Quién todavía no ha oído hablar de Central Park?. El afamado parque público newyorquino se encuentra en el distrito de Manhattan, en Nueva York. Se ha hecho famoso debido a sus múltiples apariciones en el cine o series de televisión. Tuve la oportunidad de visitarlo varias veces cuando estuve en Nueva York, y la verdad, es como nuestro parque El Retiro de Madrid o el parque Campo Grande de Valladolid (mi ciudad natal) a lo grande. La primera vez que estuve, pasear por el parque era como estar dentro de una película, porque casi todo él ¡ya lo había visto antes en la ciencia ficción!.

Who hasn´t still heard speaking about Central Park?. The famous public park of New York is in the district of Manhattan, in New York. It has become famous due to its multiple appearances in the movies or sitcoms. I had the opportunity several times to visit it when I was in New York, and the truth, It is like our park El Retiro, at Madrid, or the Campo Grande, at Valladolid (my natal city) to the big thing. The first time that I was, to walk along the park was like to be inside a movie, because almost the whole part of it, I had seen it before in the science fiction!.
