Posee la mayor colección de aviones y naves espaciales del mundo y es un centro de investigación sobre la historia, ciencia y tecnología de la aviación y el vuelo espacial, así como de las ciencias planetarias, la geología terrestre y la geofísica. Casi todos los objetos exhibidos son originales o copias de reserva de los originales.

Inaugurado en 1976, el edificio está considerado uno de los ejemplos más significativos de arquitectura moderna de Washington D.C. Su arquitecto fue Gyo Obata de Hellmuth, Obata y Kassabaum que diseñó el museo con cuatro grandes cubos de travertino que están conectados a través de tres espaciosos atrios de metal y cristal, los cuales albergan las exposiciones de los misiles, aviones y naves espaciales más grandes. Se encuentra en el National Mall de Washington D.C., entre el Museo Nacional de los Indios Americanos y el Museo Hirshhorn y Jardín de Esculturas. Es uno de los destinos turísticos más populares de la ciudad. Además, de su amplia colección tien un cine IMAX, el planetario Albert Einstein y un simulador de vuelos (es necesario adquirir tickets).

Udvar-Hazy, un complejo espectacular situado cerca del Aeropuerto Internacional Washington Dulles en el norte de Virginia.

La parada más cercana de metro: saliendo por la puerta de Independece Avenue, diríjase hacia 6th Street, cruce Maryland Avenue en el semáforo, y gire hacia la derecha. La estación L´Enfant queda en esa calle.
The entry is free, as all the museums of the Smithsonian. The schedule is of 10 a.m to 5:30 p.m; on closed December 25. The most nearby stop of meter: going out for Independece Avenue's door, diríjase towards 6th Street, crossing Maryland Avenue in the semaphore, and turn towards the right. The station L'Enfant stays in this street.

Tiene pinta de ser muy grande para que cojan todas esos aparatos. Me encantaría ir a Washington, pero todavía no he cruzado el charco. Muy buenas fotos, nos has acercado desde casa allí.
