The Rock (the Rock) or the island of Alcatraz is in the bay of San Francisco, California. Of the prison, big myths or legends have gone out on possible escapes due to the fact that it was said that it was an unbreakable place from which nobody could abscond. And from these legends or histories, they have written to themselves many books and some pelis have been rolled, most known it is  " Escape from Alcatraz " of Clint Eastwood of 1979. For the above mentioned jail there have happened the delinquents and the most dangerous mafiosoes of the 20th century as Al Capone.

It was discovered by the Spanish Juan Manuel de Ayala in 1775, who baptized to the island as " The Island of the Alcatraces ". The Americans realized his location estrátegica and military, and transformed it into military fortification, then into military prison, and until 1973, it worked as federal prison. In 1972, they her declared national park and it received the designation of Historical National Milestone (" National Historic Landmark ") in 1976 and 1986.

In 1912, the prison was started extending by more buildings and cells, all of them by the best and more extreme measures of safety and of vigilance of the epoch. To a little time, it reached great reputation, due to the fact that the North American citizens saw in it a great way of threatening the criminals with his internment.

With the great American depression and the crack of 29, the military prison had to be closed. But, as the level of delinquency increase and there were flooded the cities of the organized crime, the Government decided to re-open the former jail, it yes, spending big remodelings, as the blockage of tunnels or increasing, even more, the safety. Up to managing to considered to be the Top-security prison of The United States.

For his 29 years in use, famous convicts happened as Al Capone, Robert Franklin Stroud (the " Man Bird of Alcatraz "), Jose Sierra, James "Whitey" Bulger and Alvin Karpis (the reprobate that he was more locked up time). And there were 14 attempts of escape, of which  it " "believes" (they did not manage to be found) that only three boarders achieved to escape, and it is from them, when there was born the legend of the escape of Alcatraz.
