Este fin de semana estuve en Salamanca. Es una de las ciudades universitarias por excelencia de España desde 1218. Su plaza mayor es una de las más bonitas de España y es donde se mezclan los turistas con los lugareños. Se nombró Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1973 por considerarse monumento barroco por excelencia.

Se terminó de edificar en 1756 y fue diseñada por el arquitecto Alberto Churriguera. Inicialmente se bautizó como Plaza de San Martín y era casi cuatro veces más grande que en la actualidad, siendo considerada la "Plaza más grande de la cristiandad".

El ala este, en cuyo centró se encuentra el Pabellón Rea, es el primero que se construyó . Tiene entre sus arcos medallones de los monarcas castellanos desde Alfonso XI hasta Carlos VI. En los otros alas, aparecen personajes ilustres (sabios, pensadores, artistas, etc) como Miguel de Unamuno.

Como curiosidad, en un arco de la zona del Pabellón Real, junto a la salida el Mercado, hay una inscripción que dice: «Aquí se mató una muger, rueguen a Dios por ella».En la misma plaza hay muchas terrazas, bares y restaurantes donde pararse a tomar algo y disfrutar del ambiente. Entre los bares más antiguos se encuentra el Café Novelty. Nosotros comimos por la zona de la plaza haciendo "tapeo". Por la noche, salimos de fiesta como no podía ser de otra forma.
