El monasterio de Yuste, Cáceres

Una de las mañanas de nuestra escapada al Valle del Jerte lo dedicamos a visitar el Monasterio de Yuste, el lugar de retiro y de fallecimiento de Carlos I de España y V del Sacro Imperio Gérmanico. Fue declarado en 2007, Patrimonio europeo.

One morning of our trip to the Jerte´s Valley was dedicated to visit the Monastery of Yuste, place of retirement and death of Charles I of Spain and V of the Holy Roman Empire. It was declared in 2007, European Heritage.

Se encuentra a dos kilómetros de Cuacos de Yuste, en la Comarca de La Vera. En el pueblo es lo único que destacar junto al cementerio de los alemanes. Fue construido en 1402, erigido por los ciudadanos de La Vera para recibir a los "Ermitaños de la pobre vida", acogidos con posterioridad a la Orden de San Jerónimo. 

Located two kilometers from Cuacos de Yuste, in the region of La Vera. In the village, it is the only thing noted besides the German Cemetery. It was built in 1402, erected by the citizens of La Vera to host the "Hermits of the poor life", received after the Order of St. Jerome.

En 1556, Carlos I decide retirarse a realizar una vida monástica en él y se realizan numerosas ampliaciones en él. Vivió en el monasterio hasta su muerte y fue enterrado en la iglesia. Posteriormente, por orden de su hijo Felipe II se trasladaron su restos al Monasterio de San Lorenzo del Escorial (Madrid).

In 1556, Charles I decided to retire to make a monastic life in it and it executed numerous extensions to it. He lived in the monastery until his death and was buried in the church. Subsequently, by order of his son Philip II moved his remains to the Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial (Madrid).

Los claustros góticos y platerescos de la iglesia, así como su austero palacio, están abiertos al público, no así algunas zonas, como los claustros adyacentes al palacio, ya que en ellas residen los monjes. Asique, no espéreis ver ninguno.

The Gothic cloisters of the church and Plateresque and its austere palace are open to the public, but not some areas such as the cloisters adjoining the palace, as the monks live in them. So here, do not expect to see any one of them.

Nosotros llegamos cuando ya no se podían contratar guía turística, pero aún así nos tocó pagar los exhorbitados 9 euros (4 euros estudiantes/ > 65 años/ < 16 años) para su visita de aproximadamente un hora, sin acceso al patio. 

We arrived when we could not hire a tour guide, but we still had to pay exorbitant 9 euros (4 euros Students /> 65years / <16 years) for approximately one hour visit, with no access to the patio.
 

 

Bajamos al pueblo y estuvimos comiendo en el Restaurante Moregón, que para haber estado comiendo personajes famosos como el Príncipe de Asturias o el ex-presidente del Real Madrid Florentino Pérez, el menú del día era bastante malo.

We went down to town and we were eating at the restaurant Moregón, which have been eating celebrities like the Prince of Asturias, Felipe, and the former Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, the daily menu was pretty bad.
